scottishathletics Club Accreditation

scottishathletics Club Accreditation Programme (revised)

The development of athletics clubs is essential to the expansion of the sport in Scotland. They are the cornerstone of development and the most effective long-term method of delivery for the sport. Recognising this point, scottishathletics has identified club development as a core strategic objective. As part of fulfilling this objective, scottishathletics have revised and re-developed a new club accreditation initiative that will involve a two-tier approach:

Level 1 – Foundation Award
The Foundation Award is based around clubs getting the basics of organising and running a club right. At this level, clubs may consist of stand-alone single discipline clubs or multi-discipline clubs on a larger scale. By establishing the basics, the club will be in a position to grow to Podium Club status. The Foundation Award is also aimed at those clubs who cannot grow their club due to geography or demographics but where quality is clearly demonstrable. An example of this being clubs in the more remote areas of Scotland.

Level 2 – Podium Award
The key objective of the Podium Award club is to focus on growth, retention and the athlete pathway. It is also to ensure that members are encouraged to stay with the club and continue to train and compete at their chosen level or volunteering in whatever capacity that takes, whilst developing a sense of community belonging. These clubs will have a multi-discipline approach and be accessible and inclusive for all members of the community.

The Podium Award club should also demonstrate a formal link to local primary and secondary schools, providing school pupils an opportunity to train or compete at an appropriate level.  The Podium Club should also provide club volunteers with structured support in terms of training, mentoring and guidance.

The club should also seek to support talented athletes in an appropriate pathway, both within the club and also, at regional and national level ensuring that all athletes have the best opportunity available to fulfil their potential.

What if our club has already achieved Clubmark?
Proactive clubs who have already achieved Clubmark will transfer directly and be accredited with the scottishathletics Club Accreditation Foundation Award. Clubs will not be re-assessed but where they choose to remain at Foundation Award level and not progress to the Development Award clubs will be required to meet the Foundation Award criteria upon their 3 year review.

The attached documents provide a list of the benefits for clubs as well as the criteria required to attain the Level 1 and Level 2 Awards
